Free Cloth distribution for the Community

Free cloth distribution of The Dhaka Project took place on 28 March 2010 at Payarabagan, Chalaban and Kazi Bari road community from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
Cloths including Saree, baby suit, shirt, trousers, etc. were distributed among the neediest families of TDPS students by Mr. Azad.
Thanks to the anonymous donors of Rural Services Foundation (RSF).

Movie Night

25 March 2010. It was a movie night at TDPS roof-top.
Students from class 3 to 7 were invited to watch Oliver --a movie based on the novel Oliver Twist by famous British novelist Charles Dickens.
150 students gathered on the roof-top from 6:30 pm. The show ended at 9:00 pm.On the Big Screen. Mr. Touhid (Assist. Sponsorship Manager), Mr. Jewel (Volunteer Manager), Mr. Shimul (Volunteer) along with 3 teachers and 6 staffs organized the show.When the electricity was out Mr. Shimul cheered up the students with songs.
Students were provided with snacks during the interval. All the students enjoyed the movie.
The Dhaka Project planned for 6 movie shows this year.

Monthly Fruit Distribution Day

It’s Summer time!
Weather is very hot with humidity.
Temperature 37 degrees-- Students are exhausted.
It’s 11:00 am.—Tiffin break.
A Basket full of Oranges was brought to give the taste of refreshment & Vitamin C.Mr. Azad distributed Oranges among the TDPS students. The student’s were very happy.Usually fruit distribution time is not announced and kept as a secret---it’s only to surprise the students.

Toilet at Dakkhinkhan, Dhaka

A toilet was built at Kohinur Begum’s house situated on government land beside Fulkoli road at Dakkhinkhan, Dhaka on the third week of March 2010.
Three families of TDPS residing there did not have any access to toilet.
These families used a nearby neighbour’s toilet.
















This toilet was built to ensure hygienic environment among the families as a part of the WATSAN program.
Thanks to the Irish Community
(in Dubai) and Mr. Brendan Heery for the contribution to the New Toilet.
Mr. Brendan was also the Water & Sanitation advisor of The Dhaka Project. It was decided that the maintenance of the Public Toilet will be carried out by the families living there.

Students were lined-up according to their grade.
Names were called by Mr. Azad based on the weekly class presence.At 4:00 pm bags containing Rice, Lentil, Potato, Onions, Garlic & Eggs were distributed among the students.Bags full of weekly diet food reduces the burden of the student’s family.
Every Thursday is a happy day for the student’s of TDPS.

New room for TDPS Computer Laboratory

TDPS Computer Lab was shifted to a new big room on the 1st floor to accommodate new 15 LCD computers donated by Brummer & Partners.
A total number of 30 computers including 15 Desktop computers will provide every student a chance to operate a computer in their computer learning classes. All computers were connected with internet facilities on 22 March 2010.
The students will avail facilities of international standard in this new Computer Lab.
Now a days the whole world is linked with internet facilities and so is our children who are the poorest and most disadvanced living in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Brummer & Partners donated Computers to TDPS


donated 15 LCD computers for the Computer Lab. of The Dhaka Project School (TDPS) on 16th March 2010.
At present every student of a class will be able to operate a computer in their computer learning classes. A 14 member Swedish Team visited TDPS on 18th March for a very time with Ms. Brummer.
They visited all TDP programs including TDP office, Sewing section, Day care, Play & Nursery section, EK School, Medical Center, Library and Grooming section.The students of KG -1 gave a Thank You poster to the Team; later students of nursery section presented their own drawings to all the team members. The team also signed the Visitor’s Book.
It was a happy moment for the Swedish team as well as for the TDPS students.

Art Workshop by Japanese Volunteers

On March 7th and 8th, Japanese volunteers Tomo and Kana held Art Workshops at EK School. They brought water color pencil donated by Japanese NGO "Kids Earth Fund" for the children.Kids Earth Fund provides children with opportunities to express themselves through drawing arts, and those arts are exhibited or become goodies.
Children were excited to use water pencils, especially when they understood that their paintings will be seen by many Japanese people.
The water color pencils were donated to the school.

Campaign Bangladesh focuses The Dhaka Project

Campaign Bangladesh, monthly magazine, a UNICOM media publication, focuses The Dhaka Project on its March 2010 issue.

A full page coverage on the activities of The Dhaka Project took place on the Close-up feature page with a headline stating Dhaka Project helps slum dwellers break the "cycle of poverty".

Campaign Bangladesh is a well circulated magazine with a ratio of 30% local (Bangladesh) and 70% International news coverage.

Demonstration on Cleanliness Program with Parents & Students

Two Portuguese Volunteers, Ana and Isabel along with Ms. Faria, TDP family counselor started demonstration classes on cleanliness program for 15th, 16th and 18th March 2010 at the roof top of TDPS for the parents and students.The aim of the program is to raise awareness among the parents and students to keep healthy.39 families participated on the first day.
Combs, hair band, hair clips and naphthalene were distributed among the students on 16th March 2010.These materials will help to grow a cleaning habit (hair) among the students and their families.

Science Fair-2010

A Science Fair was held on the roof top of The Dhaka Project School on 13th March 2010 at 11:00 a.m.Students from Class 1 to 7 participated with 24 different projects. Among the projects 'Showing day and night with the help of a globe', 'Boiling water by using sunlight', 'Litmus test', 'The absorption of water by plants', 'Iodine test by lime', 'It is not possible to make fire without oxygen', 'Balance diet' were most interesting.It was for the first time for the students of TDPS to experience such a science fair in their own school.
All students visited the fair in a queue with their class teacher.

Open Cloth Sale for the Community

As a regular part of fund raising activity, a "Cloth Sale for Fund Raising" was organized by The Dhaka Project on 13th March 2010 in an open field near The Dhaka Project Office.
Different types & sizes of clothes as well as shoes & Sandals were on display for a very low price.Before the sale, an announcement held around. The community of Gawair was informed about the event a day before. Many people including students of TDPS gathered to buy clothes according to their needs.
Mr. Azad collected money from the buyers. An amount of 2866.00 BDT was raised from the sale.The Cabin Crews of Emirates Airlines brought these clothes from Dubai through on flight to Dhaka. The Dhaka Project is always grateful to them and also to all the donors in Dubai.

Anti worm tablet distribution day

11 Mar 2010 it was Anti worm tablet (Anthelmintic medicine) distribution day at The Dhaka Project School. Dr. Jahidul Islam demonstrated how the anti worm tablet would work in human body. Nikoline a Volunteer from Sweden was present and distributed Anti worm tablets among the students. As a tropical country people of Bangladesh are affected by various types of small worms. It is necessary to take Anti worm tablets every 3 months to keep ourselves free from small worms.

Happy Birth Day to Manuela Da Silva

13th March 2010 !... It was Birthday of Manuela Da Silva (Volunteer).
She has scored (50)---In deed a half century! The birthday was celebrated among the students, guardians and staffs of TDP at The Dhaka Project School with a 60 pound Cake (5 different pieces). Manuela Di Silva distributed pieces of cake at 12:00 a.m. with her own hand. Hundreds of "Thank You" echoed the air. The students enjoyed the day very much.

A bridge for Ismail!

When some people join efforts...
After a series of poor school results Ismail took the chance to talk with Faria, the family counsellor of The Dhaka Project.
Ismail couldn't attend school regularly due to some obstacle surrounding his house. Faria went to visit Ismail's parents but couldn't reach the house because it was totally surrounded by deep wastewater.
This was a real unhealthy and uncomfortable situation for the family.
Volunteer Ferre promised to help if the parents assured that Ismail would go to school regularly.
The landlord agreed to allow a bridge to be built on his land.
Mr. Shimul (Local Volunteer) was happy to assist us and organize everything all to build a bamboo bridge.Volunteer Julie Tartaggia and Ferre donated 4000 BDT for this purpose.
A month later Ismail was attending school regularly!

Captain Werner’s visit to TDPS

Captain Werner Linshalm, Emirates Airline Pilot and Sponsorship Manager (Dubai & Austria) visited The Dhaka Project on 4th March 2010.
He spent a busy day visiting the Dhaka Project School and having an important meeting with the staffs of TDP.He also carried gifts of the Sponsors all the way to Dhaka from Dubai. The sponsored students shared their feelings with Werner and thanked him as well as the respective Sponsors.The students also requested him for frequent visit to Dhaka. Captain Werner left Dhaka in the evening. It was a very short visit to Bangladesh.

Toiletries Distribution

4th March 2010 was quarterly toiletries distribution day at The Dhaka Project School. The distribution program began at 12:20 p.m.
Each student is provided with soap, a tooth paste and a tooth brush bought from renowned multinational companies.
This program helps the students to keep their teeth clean and enjoy a healthy health which are pre-requisite for higher school attendance. This also creates awareness among the students and makes it a regular cleaning habit.
The students were very happy to receive the toiletries.

Fruit Distribution Day at TDPS

1st March 2010, It's Spring in Bangladesh.
Students were attentive in their studies---doesn't know anything about the next moment---Tiffin break is just 10 minutes ahead---Surprise!
Bags full of apples arrived. It seems that The Dhaka Project always remember "An Apple A Day, Keeps The Doctor Away" though it's not possible everyday. Student's joy knew no bounds. The students were advised to wash the apple before eating. Fruit distribution day is always the happiest day of the month.

Cleanliness program by Portuguese Volunteers

Two Portuguese Volunteers, Ana and Isabel, started a cleanliness program from 1st March 2010 at the Grooming centre of TDPS.
The aim of the program is to make the hair of the students’ lice free.
Each day 20 students will be treated. At first the hair is carefully washed and rubbed with a towel, a medicine is poured on the hair and mixed with hand, a piece of cloth is wrapped around the hair which will be kept for a day and the hair will be washed again after 24 hours.
This process will kill all the lice living in the hair and the students will have a healthy hair.

25 contestants of ‘Meril Splash and Personna: Inspiring Freshness’ visited TDP

25 female contestants of "Meril Splash and Personna: Inspiring Freshness" visited TDP on 12 Feb. 2010. The grooming session of the beauty contest was jointly organized by Square Toiletries Ltd. and Personna (Beauty Parlour).
Events like story writing competition and working with the underprivileged children were arranged to test not only the contenders outer beauty, but also their inner capabilities which, are the prerequisite to be beautiful.The female contestants were divided into 5 groups, each group consisting of 5. Our 5 admin officers acted as guide.
The female contestants spent their time teaching, playing, acting, dancing and singing with the TDP students.
They were introduced with Day care, Play group, Nursery, Senior Grade, Medical Centre, Grooming Section etc.
The students of TDPS spent the whole day from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. and had a different type of experience.
